Chicago White Sox edge Oakland Athletics 4-3 – MLB Recap
Chicago White Sox edge past the Oakland Athletics 4-3 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, August 10 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.
The White Sox’s entire roster played with big energy and won in the end. They kept the A’s under pressure throughout the game and earned a great victory for their team.
Starter Gavin Floyd gave the early initiative as he finished with great numbers. He pitched six solid innings and allowed three runs and seven hits. He remained calm on the mound during his spell as he received only three earned runs with a homer.
He struck-out five and his ERA remained consistent at 4.43.
"It's kind of been like that the last couple games, But it is what it is. I've got to go out there and compete and try to keep the team in the game. It's not always going to be like that, I'm going to battle my butt off to try to put up zeros," Floyd said.
Later Chicago manager Robin Ventura said, "It's not going to be easy not having him in the lineup. It's the best thing for him to get him back at full strength. We're just going to have to find ways to have guys like Jordan Danks come through in ways like that.”
Relief pitcher Leyson Septimo also played well and finished his 0.1 innings spell with one strike-out on 5.00 ERA.
On the other hand, the A’s pitchers did not perform well as they were unable to throw in the right areas. Oakland’s pitching just could not contain the White Sox offence throughout the game.
Brandon McCarthy started the game for the Athletics and allowed three runs and six hits. He also allowed three earned runs and was smashed with three homers on 2.68 ERA.
Sean Doolittle pitched well for the Athletics with one hit and three strike-outs in his two innings but still his performance was not enough to land Oakland to a safer position.
Closer Pat Neshek was also hit with a run and one earned run along with a homer on his 2.08 ERA.
