Chicago White Sox edge Tampa Bay Rays 2-1 – MLB Recap
Chicago White Sox started off well against the Tampa Bay Rays in their three-match regular series encounter as they defeated them in the very first game 2-1 on Monday, May 28 at Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Starter Chris Sale played a key role in White Sox’s win as he struck-out a career high 15 opposing batters and earned a great win for his team.
He remained confident on the mound for 7.1 innings and received only three hits and gave only one run.
"A special day ... it was awesome, It's nice, especially growing up and being kind of a Tampa Bay Rays fan. My uncle brought me here to the first game. It was the day after my birthday. I didn't know what the record was, That's something I'm not really worried
about. Sale said.
He added, “I knew I had quite a few there late in the game, but it's the same thing just like any other day. You go out there and you try not to focus on all the external stuff that might get in the way of you doing your job."
Sale held the Tampa Bays’ batters with enormous energy and never allowed them to score quick runs. The only run scored by the Tampa Bay was made in the fourth inning when designated hitter Jose Lobaton put them in-front with his single.
On the other hand, the entire game was dominated by the White Sox as they progressively kept the Tampa Bay side under pressure and eventually won in the end.
This win now places the White Sox in top position with 28-22 win-loss record along with .560 winning percentage. While the Tampa Bay Rays’ are sitting in the second position in the American League East Division with .580 winning percentages along with 29-21
win loss record.
Though this ongoing series will not affect the overall standings of both teams in their respective leagues, but still it could determine the new standings before the mid season break if both these sides continue to play on the same pace.
