Chicago White Sox edge city rivals Chicago Cubs 3-2 – MLB Recap
The Chicago White Sox edge past their city rivals 3-2 in the first game of their three-match regular series matchup on Friday, May 18 at Wrigley Field, Chicago in 2012 Major League Baseball season and got commanding position in the series.
The White Sox entire roster played well and never allowed the Cubs to take control of the game.
Second baseman Gordon Beckham rose to the occasion as he hit a timely homer which proved ultimate winning factor for the White Sox, who took the game away with style.
"I think that was more than the typical game. It seemed like there was a lot of stuff going on," Beckham said with confidence regarding his outing.
Beckham added, "You never want that for anybody that you're playing with or anybody on their team. You never want to see anybody hit in the head.”
Both teams’ pitchers showed resilience to outdo each other’s batting offence, but still the White Sox players able to overwhelm the Cubs’ in the end.
Cubs’ starter Jeff Samardzija stayed on the mound for over seven innings and gave only three runs, six hits, three earned runs and struck out eight.
On the other hand, White Sox starter Philip Humber went with two runs, five hits in his over six innings’ spell.
First baseman Paul Konerko started off well for the White Sox in the very first inning when he smashed a deserted homer in the left field and gave his team early advantage.
"I saw him before he left, His eye was pretty swelled up, but he was pretty cognizant, didn't say he was dizzy or anything. I've seen him get hit before and go to first. I was a little scared when he didn't get right up, he seemed fine, we'll see how he
feels tomorrow." Pierzynski said for Konerko’s tremendous play.
Konerko’s homer also gave opportunity to Beckham who completed the score quickly. Later the Cubs’ came back tying the score at 2-2 however; the White Sox were too good for their city rivals and went pass in the eighth with Beckham’s home run.
