Chicago White Sox edge past Los Angeles Angels 5-4 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Thursday, May 16 at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in California.
“It was a good time to get one, We're sitting at the bottom of the division so any win we can get now moves us up,” second baseman Jeff Keppinger said.
Though Angels’ scored two back to back runs in the fourth inning and later in sixth inning but White Sox came back in the eighth innings when they scored three runs and won the game with quite ease.
“You've got to start a streak somewhere, and we're going to have to do something pretty special to get back into it, If you let enough of them slide, you're not going to be able to do that,” Angels’ right fielder Mark Trumbo said.
The Angels’ pitcher did their best but they just could not save the game and allowed too much runs. Despite they had a good start with starting pitcher Jerome Williams who allowed only two runs on six innings. He received five hits on 3.05 ERA but still
his performance could not bring any good news for Los Angeles side.
Relief pitcher Dane De La Rosa was the one who lost the game for the Angels. In his one inning’s spell, he was hammered with four hits and three runs along with three earned runs on blistering high 4.79 ERA.
On the other hand, though White Sox’s starting pitcher Jose Quintana did not play well and allowed too much runs but he was still managed to strike out four Angels’ batters on 3.97 ERA.
“That's how we've been playing and we're going to continue to play -- never giving up no matter what the score is, our offense was awesome,” White Sox’s closer Addison Reed said.
The White Sox hitters were the main reason as they provided their team a good win. Centre fielder Alejandro De Aza scored one run on two hits on his slugging percentage of .444. First baseman Adam Dunn also did his part as he scored one run along with one
RBI on four at bats.
