Chicago White Sox edge past Texas Rangers, 4-3 – MLB Update
The players of the Chicago White Sox showed their outstanding abilities both with the bat and ball to snatch a 4-3 victory against the Texas Rangers at U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago, on May 17.
Chicago starter, John Danks was economical right through his six inning pitches. He gave away three runs on four hits including two earned runs. He had two strike-outs and allowed six walks with an ERA of 4.32. Danks settled down himself and retired seven
out of nine batters in his last two pitched innings.
Danks was satisfied with his pitching performance. Speaking to reporters, he said, “They didn't hit me very much because there wasn't many pitches to hit. I don't have a reason or I don't know why the first couple innings went the way they did. ... Like
I said, I'm glad.”
The Rangers got off the mark in the very first inning and took an initial 1-0 lead when Endy Chavez walked and posted a single run on the double play grounder of Ian Kinsler towards the centre-field position. The second inning again went in favour of the
Rangers and they extended their lead to 2-0 as Mike Napoli, Craig Gentry and Yorvit Torrealba walked down the ground with two out. No score was added in the third inning from both sides.
The Rangers’ pitchers threw impressive pitches in the first four innings as they allowed no run to any batter. The Rangers pushed their lead to 3-0 at the end of fourth inning on the walk of David Murphy at first base. The White Sox broke up a score-less
streak during the fifth inning by adding three runs.
Brent Morel raised the momentum of his team by hitting a three-run homer off the right-centre field spot against the Rangers’ starter Matt Harrison. The game was tied with 3-all at the end of fifth inning. During sixth and seventh inning, the score-board
remained empty for both teams. But Gordon Beckham made a leadoff walk in the eighth inning to give the White Sox, a 4-3 lead.
The White Sox’ Manager Ozzie Guillen was contended with the performance of Morel. He said, “He need and we need that one just to wake up. After that home run, I think we obviously come alive a little bit.”
Harrison gave away three runs on three hits including three earned runs with an ERA of 4.27 in seven inning pitches.
