Chicago White Sox fail to make it to work out on Thursday as snow breezes through
The Chicago White Sox took things easy in Cleveland as their outdoor workout schedule was cancelled due to snow. The players and the coaches failed to do anything productive at the ‘Progressive Field’, and it was a general understanding that amends had to be made. The team got to train for their encounter against the Cleveland Indians, inside the stadium instead.
The club is preparing well for the 12th July, 2011 Major League Baseball match and the Opening Day challenge at Chase Field, Phoenix, is something the club will be prepping the squad for in the coming days. Most of the team members were able to go out and indulge in snow fights. However four members of the organization thought otherwise and did something unique.
Mark Buehrle, Alex Rios, Ramon Castro and third base coach, Jeff Cox, got together to erect a snowman at the field. Manager Ozzie Guillen had poked fun at the eventual meeting between his club and the Indians. He, however, did not think the same about the weather. He suggested that the climate was no excuse of not working out for the Opening Day encounter.
"You want to play in nice weather? Sign with the NBA -- you play indoors and you are fine," Guillen said. "You play baseball, you will play in rain, snow, hot and humid. I don't expect my players making any excuses or complaining about it. We know it's cold. We all know that. That's two teams out there battling."
Omar Vizquel, the club’s shortstop, was also available for comments. Being with the club for the eleventh season is not particularly a hallmark, but he was able to invoke his knowledge on the press, saying that snow in April is not a rare sight for Cleveland.
"I remember a few years in a row where it was getting hard to get to the ballpark because of the snow," Vizquel said. "There were trucks moving snow around right before the game. That's the baseball in Cleveland in April."
Friday’s fixture is predicted to present a sunny weather when the White Sox take on the Indians.
