Chicago White Sox fall prey to the Max Scherzer-Detroit Tigers’ rampage
The Detroit Tigers mesmerised their opponents last night as they pushed them further out of the Central Division title contention. In front of a crowd of 28,563 fans in the U.S. Cellular Field, hosts’ Chicago White Sox crashed to their 8th defeat
in the last 10 games. Their 4th game loss added to their losing streak curtsey of Max Scherzer. The visiting ace man struck out 11 hitters in the night and retired 10 of the last 11 batters he faced.
The White Sox have been without a win for a long time now and this match proved to be a test for the squad that has been running low on morale and motivation. The team started the fixture off with pitching duties but the roster scored first. With that being
said, it turned out to be a surprise for everyone in the world of baseball as Manny Ramirez was responsible for that run. The veteran striker of the ball had been homer-less since the 19th of June. His last home run came off the Boston Red Sox when
he played for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Manny was the first player to score in the match and he did so in the bottom 4th when he struck a beautiful 417 feet homer to the left. That smash boomed the side to a 1-0 score line and put the Chicago side on the front foot. Brent Morel was
the next one to score for the team and he did so in the bottom 5th, smashing Max Scherzer’s pitch for a 417 feet homer down the centre.
With the Tigers down 2-0, it seemed like the White Sox were finally going to triumph. However, the match had just starting shaping up and it took the top 7th to change the entire look of the game. Detroit was put in front by Miguel Cabrera. The
maestro started his innings with a single to the right centre. He followed it up with a sprint to the third when Don Kelly singled to the right. After that, all it took was Edwin Jackson’s wild pitch to get the man through the gate keeper for the first run
of the team. The ball thrower started fumbling from there onwards as he walked Ryan Raburn to the first base.
Kelly then scored when Johnny Peralta singled to the left. Manager, Ozzie Guillén had enough and brought on Scott Linebrink to replace the starting pitcher. Things looked great when Brandon Inge struck out, but things took a sinister turn. Alex Avila came
on and drove a double to deep centre. The hit got both Raburn and Peralta through for two additional Tigers runs. The action didn’t stop there as Austin Jackson turned the s***w on the opponents as he led Avila back to the dug out with a two run 408 feet home
run, which he struck towards the centre half of the park. The innings ended with the team on 6 runs and a lead of 4 runs.
From there on in, the Chicago bullpen were shuffling in replacements and much to the horror of the manager, more pain was inflicted in the 9th innings. Raburn scored again, as he ran clear with a Peralta double to the deep left centre. Inge then
doubled to the right to get Peralta home for the second run in the top 9th. The last run came in the same innings when Will Rhymes hit a sacrifice fly to get Inge to score the ninth run for the team. The match ended on Detroit at 9 while White Sox
finishing at 2 runs.
The victory was owed mostly to Detroit pitcher Max Scherzer who lowered his earning run average to 3.54 and allowed just 2 runs in his 8 innings of play. The ball thrower and Austin Jackson have truly turned into superstars for the Tigers, since their signing
in last December. Tigers Manager, Jim Leyland will hope he keeps the two players in great form as they are surely proving their worth to the management and the team.
