Chicago White Sox fall to Baltimore Orioles 3-4 as Brett Myers allows home run in the eighth - MLB
Relief pitcher Brett Myers leaks runs late in the innings as the Chicago White Sox fall to the Baltimore Orioles 3-4 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore, Maryland on August 27, 2012 in the first game of their four match series.
It was a low scoring game which saw the Orioles maintaining a one run lead for most part of the game. However in the top of the sixth, White Sox fought back strongly and scored two runs, giving an impression that by restricting Orioles through the last inning
they will be able to record a victory.
However the reliever Myers became Chicago’s undoing as he leaked runs at a time when the team was in an ideal position to win the game.
The two runs that he gave up proved costly as afterwards the White Sox did not put up any resistance in the last inning. They allowed an easy passage to the Orioles toward triumph.
Offensively the White Sox struck eight hits more than the Orioles in the game. Their third baseman Kevin Youkilis hammered two hits in four at-bats and added two RBIs on Monday. Other than him, the first baseman Adam Dunn had one hit in four at-bats on the
plate.
Myers rues the time when he threw a pitch which resulted in a mammoth home-run. He wanted to get the ball to fall somewhere else as opposed to straight on the middle on the bat. As it did not happen a decent home-run was struck and thus the White Sox suffered
the defeat.
"I sure didn't want it to go straight over the plate, which is where it went," Myers said. "I wish I could have that one pitch back, but you know that isn't going to happen."
Meanwhile, Youkilis appears disappointed after he saw his effort of hitting a home-run and bringing the team back into the game going in vain following the poor show by the reliever Myers in the eighth.
"You never want to lose a game like that," Youkilis said. "We had the lead and Nate hit that home run."
Chicago still has the chance to clinch the series victory as three more games are left. They will be looking to fix the loop-holes and work their way out to deliver improved performances in the upcoming matches.
