Chicago White Sox general manager Ken Williams shows support for Robin Ventura as manager
The Chicago White Sox general manager Ken Williams is showing his full support for newly appointed team manger Robin Ventura. On Tuesday, Williams spoke in the media and called Ventura a right-fit as White Sox skipper. Ken told the media in detail regarding
his hiring and how it is similar with White Sox former manger Ozzie Guillen.
Williams said, "Whether it be the next day before a game or in the bar after the game or on a bus or wherever on a plane, you have these baseball conversations. For me, those are opportunities to gauge whether a guy has the baseball acumen. This hire is
not dissimilar to the Ozzie Guillen hire; we don't need any other examples from any other organizations. This was right for us.”
Ventura, who has no Major League Baseball coaching and managerial experience in the past, was appointed on October 6 as new manager of White Sox for next three years. He became the 39th manager of Chicago when he replaced Ozzie Guillen, who went
on to manage the Florida Marlins after spending almost seven years in the White Sox franchise.
Robin will be facing a tough challenge managing the White Sox in the next season. Chicago did not perform well in the 2010-11 MLB regular season and received much criticism from many baseball experts over their poor record of 79-83. Last season was a bitter
disappointment that provoked the White Sox management to hire someone who can bring stability into their franchise. Ventura’s arrival will certainly help the White Sox roster to rebuild their game for future seasons.
Ventura is also optimistic regarding his new role with the White Sox and is looking forward to the challenge. Before becoming the manager, Ventura has also worked with the White Sox management as special advisor to the director of player development Buddy
Bell.
Prior to his current managerial career, Robin Ventura had a tremendous career as a professional baseball player. He played as third basemen for four different teams in the MLB. He had his MLB debut in 1989 for the Chicago White Sox and played a total of
16 Major League seasons. Ventura played with the White Sox from 1989 to 1998. Later, he went on and joined the New York Mets in 1999 and stayed there until 2001. He has also played for the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers for a single season each.
It remains to be seen what type of impact Ventura will have on the White Sox and if he can manage to bring the team back to their winning ways for the regular season next year.
