Chicago White Sox hammer Los Angeles Angels 4-2 – MLB Recap
Chicago White Sox hammered the Los Angeles Angels 4-2 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, August 5 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.
Catcher A.J. Pierzynski hit a superb homer in seventh as the White Sox smoothly powered past the Angels.
"The guys that are supposed to do that, they were making fun of me and calling me a home run hitter, I'm not supposed to be doing this so just ride it out as long as you can, enjoy it and have fun with it," Pierzynski said after the game and explained the team and his individual performance.
Pierzynski also added two RBIs as his slugging percentage remained consistent at .547.
Though the White Sox entire batting line-up played tremendously but their pitchers were also exceptional on the mound. They pitched accurately and made it difficult for the Angels to score on fast and curving pitches.
Starter Francisco Liriano pitched five innings and allowed one run and four hits. He also received only one earned run and struck-out four White Sox batters on his 5.03 ERA.
"I was disappointed, but at the same time things happen during the game," said Liriano and described his overall performance.
Later Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia said, "Great effort from Dan this afternoon, He used a lot of pitches to get to the sixth inning, but still he battled and showed his stuff was much crisper, so that's a positive we'll take moving forward."
Relief pitcher Nate Jones also did well on the mound as he pitched two innings and allowed run and one earned run as his ERA also remained consistent at 3.33.
On the other hand, the Angels' pitchers did not play well and lost in the end. Starter Dan Haren pitched six innings and allowed four hits along with a homer on his 4.44 ERA. Relief pitcher Jason Isringhausen allowed two runs and three hits while he also gave two earned runs. Closer Jerome Williams was also hit with one run and one earned on his blistering 4.99 ERA.
