Chicago White Sox hammer Oakland Athletics 4-0 – MLB Update
Chicago White Sox hammered Oakland Athletics 4-0 at the O.co Coliseum in Oakland, California on Monday, April 23 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Adam Dunn provided the White Sox with a dream start, hitting a towering home run in the fourth. Pau Konerko made a valuable effort in the same inning as he homered to help his team take a crucial 2-0 lead. Both teams failed to score in the next four innings. Oakland had their chances but they were unable to take advantage of the scoring opportunities.
Jake Peavy pitched with great control and accuracy as he allowed just three hits. The starter has an incredible 1.19 ERA over his last 22 innings and he will be hoping to keep things tidy throughout the season.
"You always want to finish what you start," said Peavy of his sixth career shutout. "I felt good tonight. Other than the fourth I didn't have any crazy, stressful innings."
"I kind of expect it," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "It might be unfair to say stuff like that but he's that good."
"It was similar to what we've seen, a lot of strikes," Oakland manager Bob Melvin said. "To give up just two to that team, you're giving your team a chance to win."
With their win over the Athletics on Monday evening, the White Sox improved their win-loss record to 10-6. Chicago has lived to their immense potential in most games since the start of 2012 season. However, they will be looking to bring more consistency into their game play to pose serious threats to other top big league teams.
What’s been most impressive about the White Sox is their ability to play their natural game even in pressure situations. Chicago’s record away from their home is even brilliant. They have now won seven out their nine games away from the comfort of their home. It will be interesting to see if the White Sox can continue their marvellous form throughout this year to give their fans something to cheer about.
