Chicago White Sox hammered by Detroit Tigers 2-4 – MLB Recap
The Chicago White Sox hammered by the Detroit Tigers 2-4 in the third and last game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, September 2 at Comerica Park in Detroit.
"Like I said, this wasn't the Super Bowl today, this was a game. We had a good weekend, We just beat a very good team, a team that's been in first place for most of the year. It's going to be hard to take that away from them," Detroit manager Jim Leyland said.
Tigers’ entire roster played quite aggressive and won in the end.
Second baseman Omar Infante scored one run and smashed one hit. He did well on his four at-bats and contributed a lot to his team’s win. He remained calm on the plate and maintained his slugging percentage at .414.
Third baseman Miguel Cabrera also played well for the Tigers as he scored one run and maintained his slugging percentage at .588.
Left fielder Delmon Young also did well on the plate as he scored one run and smashed one hit on his three at-bats. He not only scored frequently but he also added three RBIs on his persistent .438 slugging percentage.
Designated hitter Brennan Boesch scored one run and smashed one hit on his .387 slugging percentage. He also played well for the Tigers as he also added one RBI and won the game for his team.
Along with batters, the Tigers’ pitchers also did well on the mound and proved one of the winning factors for their team.
Justin Verlander pitched eight innings and received one run on four hits. He retired 11 White Sox’s batters and maintained his ERA at 2.73.
"I just realized pretty quickly that I didn't have great fastball control, so I started to give a little bit more effort -- thinking, 'Well, if I don't have great control, I'm not going to get beat with 90 (mph) over the plate, I'd rather get beat with 95, 96," Verlander said.
Relief pitcher Jose Valverde also played well and supported his team with great energy. He pitched one inning and allowed one run and three hits on his 3.65 ERA.
