Chicago White Sox hammered by Kansas City Royals 1-9 – MLB Recap
The Chicago White Sox lost composure in the final game of their three-match regular series encounter with the Kansas City Royals and lost 1-9 on Sunday, May 13, at U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago in the 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Pinch hitter Johnny Giavotella gave the Royals push in the ninth inning which proved ultimate for their win. The White Sox on the other hand, never seemed chasing this huge lead and fell short in the end.
Giavotella said with great confidence, “I was glad to be a spark. We couldn't score against Humber. He was keeping us at bay.”
Later Francoeur said of Giavotella, who played a crucial role in the Royals win, "We were dead and (Giavotella) put up a huge at-bat against a guy who's not easy to hit and throws 97, So I thought that kind of livened us up and then we were able to relax and have some good swings."
Starter Philip Humber was the only player from the White Sox roster who stood tall against the Royals in over six innings as he gave just one run and four hits.
The real damage was done when White Sox relief pitcher Addison Reed came on to the mound and gave six runs which proved decisive for the Royals.
The White Sox manager Robin Ventura also commented in the media regarding his team’s loss. He said, "We've been leaving guys on base, we had opportunities today, We have guys that are swinging OK, it's just not coming through. You have to continue to grind. I know they're going to work and go at it."
On the other hand, the Royals pitchers held the White Sox batters in style and never gave any loop holes. After starter Danny Duffy went to locker room due to elbow tightness, the Royals talented Luis Mendoza pitched in over six innings and went with seven hits along with one run and four strikeouts.
In the meanwhile, with this particular win, the Royals have also won the series 2-1 and now looking aggressive to face last year’s World Series finalists Texas Rangers in their next three-match series.
