Chicago White Sox hammered by Kansas City Royals 5-7 – MLB Recap
Chicago White Sox were hammered by the Kansas City Royals 5-7 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, September 7 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.
"They've always had a really good bullpen and they've always been able to swing the bats. Of late, they've been really good pitching, starting-wise, so they're just as formidable as anybody, We realize that, and we certainly don't go into games taking them lightly, so it's no surprise to us," Chicago's Paul Konerko said of the Royals’ overall performance in detail.
Later White Sox manager Robin Ventura commented on his team poor plays and explained in detail all the aspects which proved disastrous in the very first game of their three-match series, "We can get them on, but we are having problems getting them in, It's one of those games where you had plenty of opportunities and don't knock them in. Then you give them opportunities by giving them free baserunners."
Lorenzo Cain's two home-runs landed a welcome victory for the Royals. Overall he batted five times and scored two runs and smashed two hits along with three RBIs on his .407 slugging percentage.
Along with Cain, few other Royals’ batters also performed well and earned a great victory for their team.
Designated hitter Billy Butler added one run and smashed one hit on his five at-bats. He showed his class and maintained his slugging percentage consistent at .503.
Catcher Salvador Perez scored two runs and smashed two hits as well. He also added two RBIs and stayed consistent with his .512 slugging percentage.
Not only batters, the Royals’ pitchers also performed well and helped their team against the White Sox.
Starter Luis Mendoza started the game for the Royals as he pitched 5.1 innings and received five runs and ten hits along with three homers. His performance certainly disappointed the Royals but overall the other pitchers on the team supported him well and provided the club with a strong defence.
No other pitcher from the Royals’ roster allowed any further runs which eventually proved fruitful as they eased past the White Sox comprehensively.
