Chicago White Sox in a bit of rebuilding phase, says GM Kenny Williams - MLB News
As the 2012 season is approaching nearer, the Chicago White Sox’s preparations for the next year is getting better with added confidence on the entire roster. Recently, the White Sox management has almost completed their 40-man roster after they extended
their pitcher, John Danks’ contract for the next five seasons and secured a potential starter for the future.
Kenny Williams, who is the general manager of White Sox’s Major League team, has spoken in the media and explained in detail about their preparations, new signings and contract extension deals. He said, “We explored (the trade market) and obviously decided
on doing this instead. Suffice it to say, we weren't going to give John Danks away. The only way we would move any of our impact players is if we got young impact players back.”
Williams showed self-belief in John Danks and added, “It wasn't ever going to be the traditional rebuilding. The best way I can answer that. Is that I'm not afraid for him to go up against anyone. We don't want to do anything that's counter-productive (to
the chances) of winning, (But) we want to be responsible for our future as well.”
Speaking to several sports journalists, Williams was very keen to put more emphasis on John Danks’ role for the White Sox as he knows that now, only Danks can lead the franchise forward in the absence of Mark Buehrle.
Buehrle, who is considered one of the top MLB starters of all time, has recently signed with another team in the league after spending almost nine seasons with the White Sox roster. Even in Buehrle’ time, Danks was the second top performer for the White
Sox. His career stats show a great picture of a unique set of skills that he has achieved in over almost three year’s time.
Pitching at the high rate of 4.03 along with 54-56 win-loss record, 714 strikeouts and a consistent 1.30 WHIP has brought him in the league of exceptional pitchers in few years. On the other hand, his last season’s stats of 4.33 ERA along with 8-12 win loss
record, 135 strikeouts and 1.34 WHIP also proved of tremendous benefit for the Chicago White Sox.
