Chicago White Sox infielder Gordon Beckham trying to make baseball fun again – MLB News
A former American League Rookie of the Year and a member of Sporting News American League Rookie of the Year team, Gordon Beckham, whose last two years’ performance has been on declining phase, is currently putting everything to make his own game more energetic and well balanced.
He is currently busy in Arizona (Cactus League) 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training and trying his best to find the additional fun side of baseball and develop into his own game for good and consistent results.
According to stats, his numbers have been declining since he joined the Chicago White Sox franchise in 2009. Coming into the team in 2009 and batting at .270 with 14 homers and 63 RBI in 378 at-bats, Beckham knows he can achieve further consistent stats in future seasons as well.
Recently, playing in this year’s Spring Training with huge heart, he spoke to the media and explained the slight details on which he is working lately and hoping these techniques will work for him in the upcoming season.
Beckham said, “Everybody here is in a good frame of mind. Everybody is competing the right way. That’s allowing us to relax, coming to the field to compete and enjoy it. It’s something I’ve wanted to get back to do for long, and a lot of the guys wanted to get back to.”
He added, “This is our job but it’s also a game that we love. It makes it real easy coming to field every day when you enjoy it. All I want is to go out and compete the right way, give everything to the team and not worry about individual stuff.”
Last year, Beckham batted at an average of .230 along with 10 home-runs, 44 RBIs and .296 OBP. While his career hitting average of .249 with 33 homers, 156 RBIs and .318 OBP still makes him a good player if compared to other White Sox team-mates of his.
However, experts also believe and somewhat appreciating the late efforts of Beckham, who not only wants his own game to improve, but he also wants to improve his team’s overall stats as well.
