Chicago White Sox left-handed starting pitcher John Danks agrees to five-year extension – MLB News
The Chicago White Sox have started a rapid set of preparations for re-building its current roster for a better start next season. As soon as the 2011 season ended, the White Sox management not only has brought many changes in their existing roster but they
have also brought fresh faces in the front-office.
Robin Ventura came as new White Sox’s manager and now, he has succeeded convincing four year veteran, John Danks to stay with them for next five seasons.
Danks earlier has speculated in the media that he and the White Sox management are in talks over staying further for next five years but as he did not receive any reasonable offer from the White Sox yet, he cannot speak over his future affiliation with the
club. On the other hand, a White Sox executive told the media about this deal that has mutually been signed by both sides.
With Danks agreeing over a five-year deal worth $65 million, the Chicago White Sox are now in a pretty good position to compete well in the next season. From the last four years, Danks has been performing at his best. He never pitched too low in any crucial
game for the Sox. His fast throwing has always proved wonderful for his Major League team in Chicago.
Looking at his stats, many experts have mentioned in the media that he would lead the White Sox team in the next couple of years and will also lead the legacy of Mark Buehrle. Buehrle is considered one of the all-time best pitchers in the Major League Baseball’s
current era. Recently, he left the White Sox and signed with Miami Marlins before playing for over nine years in the White Sox roster.
John Danks has now another role to play as well. After Buehrle’s absence, he must take the pitching responsibility for the White Sox during the next couple of seasons. His stats also indicate that he can play on the up and thrash his other MLB opponents
as well.
Last year, Danks went with a 4.33 ERA along with an 8-12 win-loss record, 135 strikeouts and 1.34 WHIP that was rated one of the best WHIP averages at the end of the regular season. His career average of 4.03 ERA along with a 54-56 win-loss record, 714 strikeouts
and 1.30 WHIP also makes him a tremendous starting pitcher.
