Chicago White Sox lose to Baltimore Orioles 3-5 – MLB Update
Chicago White Sox were beaten by Baltimore Orioles 3-5 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Thursday, April 19 in their regular season encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The win will be of great importance for the Orioles who have looked in commanding form since the start of the season.
Orioles’ pitcher Jason Hammel struck-out ten of Chicago’s batters in a dominant display. Adam Jones had a great time on the plate as he hit his fifth home-run of the season for the Orioles.
"I made some good pitches," Hammel said. "They're a very aggressive team. They're going swing at bad stuff if you get ahead in the count. I think I exploited that today."
"We have a good group of guys here," Jones said. "There is a different mindset in here this year. We're not letting up on nobody.""It's like you're getting close and it's just not happening," Chicago’s manager Robin Ventura said. "Eventually, those (rallies) will push through and it will be different."
Buck Showalter and company had made an aggressive start to the series to secure a comfortable 10-4 win in the opening game. Their domination continued in the following game as they took a decisive 2-0 lead in the series.
The White Sox had their only chance to please their home crowd in the third game when they out classed their opponents in almost all departments with a sensational 8-1 win.
"A common denominator of teams that are competitive is they play well on the road," Showalter said. "So far, so good."
But the Orioles showed some great composure, class and mental ability in the fourth and final game on Thursday evening as they improved their win-loss record to 8-5. With five wins and just two losses away from home, Baltimore has emerged as the cornered lions of this season.
It will be interesting to see if the team can give similar performances in pressure games to make it through to the World Series. The White Sox, on the other hand, have no one to blame for their ordinary effort throughout the four game match-up.
