Chicago White Sox lose to Detroit Tigers 2-4 – MLB Recap
The Chicago White Sox lost to the Detroit Tigers 2-4 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, July 20 at Comerica Park in Detroit.
This was the third consecutive defeat for the White Sox who are certainly feeling the pressure of second half after playing well in the first half of the season.
Entire White Sox team now look under pressure and know why they are having tough times at the moment despite playing wonderfully before the All-Star break.
The reason is quite obvious as the White Sox’s have done nothing bringing a new offensive strategy into the second half to qualify for a potential post-season spot.
They are still playing with their old defensive techniques and paying the price as well as with constant defeats.
In Friday’s game, the White Sox again did not play well and lost in the end. They never showed any fighting spirit and could not just match the Tigers brilliance.
Tigers on the other hand, played combined and won with style. They never let the White Sox to dominate the game and eventually won it with a two run margin.
Starter Justin Verlander played tremendously for the Tigers and his team the third consecutive win.
He pitched eight innings and received only two runs, two earned runs and four hits.
Verlander said, "That was fun, It really got me pumped up when the crowd got into it. After that, I really wanted to throw another fastball, but my judgment was a little obscured there and Alex called a curveball [on the next pitch]. So I was like, 'All right, that's probably right.”
Tigers' manager Jim Leyland said of his team’s great win, "The only way you beat a guy like [Peavy] is to out-compete him, You'd better compete. I'm talking about every at-bat, you've got to compete, because that one hit you get might be the one that makes the difference in a game. And that actually really kind of happened tonight.”
On the other hand, Jake Peavy lost the game for the White Sox. He pitched seven innings and was hit with four runs and eight hits as his ERA rose to 3.22.
