Chicago White Sox lose to Detroit Tigers 3-5 – MLB Update
Chicago White Sox were beaten by the Detroit Tigers 3-5 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Tuesday, September 11 in second game of their four match series.
Dewayne Wise provided Chicago White Sox with the kind of start they were hoping for as he homered to right in the first inning. Gordon Beckham’s home-run to left in the third inning doubled White Sox’s lead to 2-0 but the Tigers were determined to level
the series 1-1.
Miguel Cabrera produced another match winning performance as he smacked a home-run to left centre in the fifth inning. Austin Jackson also had a decent time on the plate, hitting a home-run to left centre in the fifth.
Alex Avila and Andy Dirks made useful contributions with the bat to help Detroit secure a much needed victory.
Chicago’s starting pitcher Jake Peavy took his 11th loss of the season after he gave up six hits and three runs in just over five innings.
"You go back and relieve those and you'd like to make better pitches," Peavy said of the homers. "There's no secrets. I've faced that same lineup. ... Those guys know what I'm going to do. I had good stuff tonight. When you do have good stuff, you have a
lot of foul balls, a lot of swing-and-misses, and the pitch count got up extremely high with that."
"I think it relaxed everybody when we got on the board a little bit. We got that three-spot, I thought it relaxed everybody a little bit," Leyland said of Tigers’ starter Doug Fister.
White Sox secured a comfortable 6-1 victory in the series opener. The team was looking to put in another good performance in Game 2 to help build up some much needed confidence in their game-play.
However, the Tigers had other ideas. Snapping their four game losing streak, Jim Leyland and company closed down and the gap between themselves and the White Sox to just two games. Skipper Leyland will be expecting his men to keep up the good work over the
next two games to get back to the top on the league standings.
It will be interesting to see if the Tigers can carry their winning momentum forward during this crucial stage of the season.
