Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen to depart from team – MLB Update
The Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen is said to be bidding farewell to the team after serving them for over eight seasons. The news came to light on Monday when Ozzie Guillen reportedly said to his players on Monday before that the game against the
Toronto Blue Jays that this would be his last.
For now, as the new information is surfacing, Guillen is being reported to be in talks with the Florida Marlins to take over the reins from them. Although the news spread fast in and around Chicago, the White Sox did not offer any comments.
"The problem's not resolved," said Guillen, who met with White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf. "I told [Reinsdorf] that I don't want to come here with the same contract I have for next year. I think I've earned a little bit more than that."
While thanking the White Sox fans for showing complete support to him and calling the city the best, Guillen had earlier stated that he did not intend to return to the White Sox unless an extension was signed. That never transpired. It looks as if the White
Sox management may not be interested in renewing Guillen’s contract for the next season.
Guillen said, "Life is about money. People don't believe that, but people are happy after they make money. I have to make money out of somewhere.”
White Sox general manager Ken Williams is now looking to bring in a new team manager from an increasingly long list of potential candidates. The Triple-A Charlotte manager Joe McEwing, Tampa Bay Ray bench coach Dave Martinez and Minor League director Buddy
Bell are but a few names that are making the rounds.
Interestingly, the Indians’ Tony La Russa’s name is also in circulation, a report that is neither confirmed nor denied as yet. It is, therefore, of enormous interest not only for the Chicago White Sox but for the big circle of baseball fans to see who takes
the charge of the team for the future. It will be interesting to see where Guillen ends up and who will be replacing him in the White Sox camp.
