Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura likely to move A.J. Pierzynski to second spot – MLB News
Reports are coming that the Chicago White Sox team manager Robin Ventura wants to change the batting line-up for the next season. Ventura, who has very less experience of managing a Major League team, is trying to implement his new offensive strategy in the franchise and especially wants to change Pierzynski’s current position to second spot in order to secure more depth.
White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski, who played a relatively good last season with a hitting average of .287, is certainly looking great in this year’s Spring Training practicing hard with his team-mates in Arizona.
According to Ventura, catcher Pierzynski, “Handles the bat great, He’s always a tough out. Not that he steals a lot of bases, but he handles the bat and does the appropriate things. He’s one of those guys who will hook it if you have to or put it the other way if they shift on him.”
Though Ventura has not changed his position officially, but it is likely to happen soon and probably he will do before Opening Day. Ventura is also giving some extra time to his veteran player, knows this changing will help the team grow and achieve consistent output with every coming season.
Later Pierzynski, on his position change and also on next season’s expectation, told the media in detail. He said, “I always joke when you hit second, you get up too many times, especially as a catcher when you’re taking off the gear, it seems like you’re hitting every inning, But it was fun. I enjoyed it. I know Ozzie (Guillen) tried it for a while last year.”
The other White Sox coaches and officials have also praised Ventura’s idea of changing and giving the second spot to Pierzynski as they all think that Ventura is going on a right track and will be able to produce some quality results next season.
Ventura, who became the White Sox manager last year, knows the game with complete understanding. Experts also believe that, Ventura, a former professional baseball player, will be heading the White Sox rightly towards more excellence from next season onwards.
