Chicago White Sox outplay Houston Astros 5-1 – MLB Spring Training
Chicago White Sox outplayed Houston Astros 5-1 at the Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas on Tuesday, April 3 in their Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
Chris Sale was the star of the show as the White Sox dominated their rivals in almost all aspects of the game to secure a comfortable 5-1 win over the Astros on Tuesday night. Sale has given some great performances since the start of this spring but he looked
on top of his game against the Astros, striking out six in four innings. Giving up just one run on three hits, he played a meaningful role in deciding the outcome of the clash.
Sale showed his control over fastball and curveball when he gave up one run and struck out seven over six innings pitched in his previous outing. Without a shadow of a doubt, he is one of the most talented pitchers in the game right now. If he can perform
on regular basis, the White Sox will have a great chance to make it to the post season.
"I talked to A.J., he said: `You're rushing things. Get the jitters out and pitch your game," Sale said. "After that, I felt good and had a great sense of poise."
"Every guy wants to pitch better, but I was pleased," he said. "The first few (starts) were kind of rocky, but I smoothed it out along the way. I felt strong enough and my endurance was up so I feel like I'm ready to go."
The 23 year old has played most of his MLB games as a reliever. He will now have an excellent chance to prove his mettle as a starting pitcher. In a post game interview, Sales stated that he is ready for the upcoming regular season.
For the Astros, starter Bud Norris displayed some high quality throwing skills, giving up only two runs and five hits in three innings. Striking out four, he sent a strong message to his opponents. Adam Dunn and Paul Konerko hit two consecutive homers to
help the Chicago take 4-1 lead in the fifth inning.
