Chicago White Sox pitcher Philip Humber enjoying limelight after perfect game – MLB Update
The Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Philip Humber is centre of media attention at the moment after he pitched a perfect game on Saturday at Safeco Field against the Seattle Mariners and achieved an honour to become 21st player ever to throw a base-less entire nine innings.
Humber said in a media conversation explaining details of his sudden fame in the biggest baseball league in the world and latest 15- minute telephone talk with President Barack Obama.
Humber said, "It definitely is an honor to speak to him, He just wanted to congratulate me. He even asked about Kristan and the baby and asked about how that was going. He shared some of his experience of being a new father. He's definitely a great communicator, and I appreciate him talking to me.”
He added, “I think it went (well), I can't wait to see it, and hopefully I didn't embarrass myself too bad. It sounded like I got some laughs. I'm just trying to be myself, and I know it's something that's like your 15 minutes of fame or whatever."
For a pitcher, a perfect game is the biggest price of his talent, but here, the veteran Major League pitcher, stated his recent accomplishment is the reason of White Sox’s sheer confidence which they are showing on him since the start of the fresh 2012 MLB season.
The one reason the White Sox have no choice over giving confidence to their starting pitcher is the absence of world class pitcher Mark Buehrle who recently has joined the Miami Marlins.
Mark Buehrle played in the White Sox franchise for almost ten years and achieved all major awards including All Star selection, Gold Glove award, World Series title, pitched no hitter game and a Perfect Game with the team where he started his career in 2000.
In the meanwhile, coming onto Humber’s tremendous achievement, who is currently playing at 0.63 ERA along with 1-0 win loss record, 16 strikeouts and 0.63 WHIP, is certainly linked to the extraordinary amount of confidence his team has been showing on him.
It will be interesting to see that the White Sox pitcher Humber, with this fast pace, achieve more accomplishments this ongoing MLB season and bring some stability in the roster as well.
