Chicago White Sox pound Boston Red Sox 7-5 – MLB Recap
The Chicago White Sox crushed the Boston Red Sox 7-5 in the second game of their four-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, July 17 at Fenway Park in Boston.
Chicago bounced back beautifully in the very next game after they were beaten in the first game one day ago.
White Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis played tremendously and earned a great victory for his team.
He hit a three home-run in the fourth inning along with three RBIs on two hits. He remained calm on the plate and performed superbly.
Youkilis said, "You never know here, but it's been great, Fans have treated me unbelievable and I can't thank them enough for all the kind things they keep saying from the stands every day and every inning. Not too many opponents get to come in here and have that opportunity."
Later manager Robin Ventura said about Youkilis, “Yeah, he's just showing off, just rising to the occasion for us and being in big spots," "I think there's something when you get traded, there's something to prove and that all goes into it with a lot of people that's happened to.”
Designated hitter Adam Dunn also played well for the White Sox as he scored one run on a single hit.
Short-stop Alex Ramirez, who was playing exceptionally well in the first half of the season with .266 hitting average along with .287 OBP, again played tremendously and scored two runs on two hits.
Not only batters but the White Sox pitchers were also sharp in the game. They never gave any big loop-holes to their opponents and kept them under pressure during the entire game.
Especially starter Philip Humber played tremendously and gave up two runs only. He pitched six innings and received two earned runs as well as his ERA slightly lifted to 5.77.
Matt Thornton’s pitching also proved one of the winning factors for the White Sox as he received only three runs on 3.43 ERA.
On the other hand, the Red Sox pitchers played certainly poor and lost in the end.
Jon Lester alone was hammered with six run, six earned runs, one homer and seven hits as his ERA rose to 4.80 in just four innings’ spell.
