Chicago White Sox re-sign starting pitcher Jake Peavy – MLB Update
As the San Francisco Giants won the 2012 World Series, now an American League team is showing their optimism to win next year’s big prize.
Several reports are coming as Chicago White Sox’s new general manager Rick Hahn is demonstrating his ambitions to win next year’s World Series by retaining some senior players for the next couple of years which will give them the right level of thrust to compete in 2013 Major League Baseball season.
As Hahn settled in White Sox’s front office, he took a major decision by re-signing starting pitcher Jake Peavy to another two-year term worth $29 million.
Peavy is a world class player and finished this past regular season achieving 3.37 ERA along with 11-12 win-loss, 194 strikeouts and 1.10 WHIP. His performance has been quite consistent as he won many crucial games for the White Sox.
After re-signing with the team Peavy has been playing with for the last three years, he came out in the media and explained his delight.
“I’m really excited to come back to Chicago and build on what we did last year, I made no secret of the fact that this is where I want to play. Chicago is a great city with great fans, and I can’t think of a better place to try and win a championship. With the guys we have coming back, I think we have a great opportunity to accomplish some special things,” Peavy said.
Peavy added, “Today is a great day for me and my family and, I hope, for the White Sox, as well.”
Jake will receive a total of $29 million in two years. $14.5 million in each year but there is also incentive bonus involved which will be given with the level of performance he shows during the season.
On the other hand, regarding new GM Hahn, he is going in the right direction. First he re-signed Peavy and now reports are also coming that he has picked up $9.5 million club options on Gavin Floyd.
Meanwhile, experts believe that with Robin Ventura and GM Hahn, the White Sox have the potential to outsmart serious contenders in American League as well as in National League in the next Major League season.
