Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Addison Reed earns MiLBY as Best Overall Reliever – MLB News
Improving from Minor League to Major League and in so little time is always a tough task for any young baseball player, but the way Chicago White Sox right-handed relief pitcher Addison Reed has emerged on the bigger picture of Major League Baseball is truly
commendable. He not only performed tremendously but he learnt the tricks of the trade with full concentration.
Coming from 1.26 ERA in the Minor League and then pitching for a 3.68 ERA in seven out of thirteen Major League innings, made Addison eligible for this year’s MiLBY as Best Overall Reliever. He put in a tremendous performance and being honoured with this
award has affirmed his dedication and commitment to the team. Many reporters asked him several questions after Addison won the award and in reply he explained in detail.
Reed said, “I thought that I had a chance to maybe make it up to Double-A, and then every time I got moved up, I made it a personal goal to not go backwards and to go forwards, I got up to Double-A and once I got there, I just kept doing my thing and said
to myself, 'Do the best that I can and make it hard for them to keep me there.’”
His Minor League experience is now going to help him when he will be playing at the highest level in the 2012 MLB season. Addison’s most impressive performances include a 1.59 ERA and .88 WHIP at class A Advance Winston-Salem and 11.8 strike-outs per nine
innings at Triple-A Charlotte. Combined with 111 strike-outs in just over a total 78 Minor League innings in his rookie season was another major achievement for Addison who now will be more focused to play in the Major League in the upcoming season.
Before playing baseball professionally, he had a good amateur career with San Diego State University. The White Sox scouts intelligently selected him and told their organisation about Addison’s tremendous pitching skills and convinced them to bring him into
the Chicago White Sox who later drafted him in the third round of the 2010 MLB draft.
