Chicago White Sox rout Detroit Tigers 6-1 – MLB Update
Chicago White Sox crushed the Detroit Tigers 6-1 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Monday, September 10 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Starting pitcher Jose Quintana produced a magical performance as he gave up just seven hits and a run in seven plus solid innings to grab his sixth win of the season. Striking-out seven batters, he created all sorts of problems for the Tigers’ offence.
Relief pitchers Donnie Veal and Addison Reed combined to toss up one plus scoreless innings to help the White Sox establish complete control over the contest.
After the Tigers took the early 1-0 lead, Alex Rios connected for a three run home-run to left in the sixth inning to put Chicago on the board. A.J. Pierzynski also made useful contribution with the bat as he added a solo home-run to centre in the sixth
inning to extend White Sox’s lead to 4-1.
Gordon Beckham smacked a home-run to left in the eighth inning to end the game on a bright note for his team.
"I think when Rios hits that ball, it just kinds of pops the cork on all the angst of not getting guys in," Chicago manager Robin Ventura said. "That was a pretty big home run for us."
"We struggled the last games against them and this win being the first one of the series is pretty big," Rios said. "This whole series is pretty important for both of the teams. We are going to have a chance to maybe get a couple of games ahead if we win
the series. It could decide what is going to happen at the end of the year."
The White Sox continued their emphatic winning streak to move three games ahead of Detroit Tigers on the American League East Division standings table. Manager Robin Ventura will be extremely happy with what he saw from the White Sox in a game that was extremely
important for both teams.
White Sox will be hoping to win the series against Detroit to improve their chances of making it to the playoffs.
