Chicago White Sox rout Kansas City Royals 2-1 to complete deserving series win – MLB Update
Chicago White Sox held off the Kansas City Royals 2-1 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Sunday, July 15 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The White Sox had prevailed 9-8 in a thrilling series opener but the Royals fought back superbly in Game 2 to level series 1-1. With home crowd support working in their favour, Ned Yost and company had an excellent chance to wrap up an impressive series
win on Sunday but Chicago had other ideas.
Chris Sale continued his impressive form as he pitched eight effective innings to play a key role in White Sox win. The left hander gave up just one run with four strike-outs to pick up his 11th win of the season. Credit must be given to him for
the control he has shown on his fastballs and curveballs since the start of season.
"On 2-0, I was geared up for a fastball and it was a changeup," Dunn said. "I just caught it out in front. I don't hit many of those line drive home runs. I could have easily hooked it foul. That was obviously a positive thing. That's what we've been working
on all spring to stay inside of it."
"I've always said I like pitching in warm weather way better than cold," Sale said. "It's definitely nice to have some heat out there today."
Addison Reed also played his part as he gave up just a hit in the ninth for his 14th save of the season. Royals’ starting pitcher Luis Mendoza took his sixth loss of the season after he allowed four hits and two runs in seven plus innings. Luis
was unlucky to end up on the losing side despite putting up a decent show on the mound.
Adam Dunn provided the White Sox with an excellent start as he homered to right in the first inning and Alexei Ramirez grounded into to double play in the second to double Chicago’s lead to 2-0. For the Royals, Chris Getz singled to centre and Mike Moustakas
scored the only run.
