Chicago White Sox sign right-hand pitcher Luis Martinez – MLB News
The Chicago White Sox have signed right-handed pitcher Luis Martinez worth $250,000 as a future prospect.
This initiative was taken after their ace pitcher Mark Buehrle decided not to stay in the White Sox franchise and instead signed with the Miami Marlins.
The White Sox, who were looking for another pitcher in this offseason, finally chose a talented Venezuelan native in order to strengthen their current 40-man roster.
This particular signing is considered to be one of the most interesting international signings in the recent Major League era. Though, Japanese star Yu Darvish’s potential signing to the New York Yankees will also be very intersting when it happens, but Martinez has arrived earlier than Darvish as his contract is yet to be finalised.
Martinez, a young sensation is an exceptional pitcher and received much acclamation for his extraordinary throwing approximately from 84-88 mph to 88-91 mph. From his broad frame with long arms with a solid delivery as high as-70s curveball that also made him one of the best secondary pitchers in the foreign free agency market. These qualities eventually added-up to convince the White Sox foreign scouts to sign him for future seasons.
Luis, who has also persuaded many MLB teams including the Boston Red Sox, Texas Rangers, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, Toronto Blue Jays, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Minnesota Twins, Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays but he and his agent found the White Sox offer much more lucrative to sign.
Some baseball experts earlier have stated that the White Sox might go for two or three young pitchers as future prospects but no one knew that they had plans to add a South American.
This was also a surprise for many because the White Sox have spent their largest financial commitment to an international signing in recent years just to fill the gap that Mark Buehrle has created.
In the meanwhile, this signing has some huge potential pay-offs. It is a positive step forward for the White Sox franchise to compete in the next season and without any panic in the absence of an experienced starting pitcher.
