Chicago White Sox sign third baseman Jeff Keppinger – MLB Update
Chicago White Sox has taken a drastic step signing former Tampa Bay Rays' third baseman Jeff Keppinger with a three-year $12 million deal. Experts believe that this deal after a brief physical might prove one of the most courageous deals for the White Sox.
White Sox in this offseason has been busy landing a good infielder in the franchise while with Keppinger’s signing, they have somewhat succeeded bringing in some more fire power in the roster.
White Sox still want to add Kevin Youkilis as well but both sides are arguing on certain contract matters.
Joe Bick, Youkilis' agent, said, "They kept us informed of where they might be headed, They were good about it."
Robin Ventura, who finished the first season of his managerial career on a high note, is also happy and appreciating the White Sox front office on a successful deal with the seven-year Major League veteran.
He saw Keppinger playing for the Rays in the past Major League Baseball season. Keppinger, playing for the Rays, also improved with enormous results. He finished the season on a high note achieving .325 hitting average along nine homers, 40 RBIs and .367 OBP.
Keppinger is also considered a solid third baseman with his career hitting average of .288 hitting average along with 41 homers, 255 RBIs and .337 OBP.
Now with the White Sox, Keppinger is getting a huge opportunity. His new team, the White Sox, is considered one of the leading Major League franchise and possesses a large possibility to win championships. Keppinger on the other hand, also knows this fact that White Sox is a right team for him.
Keppinger, who started playing baseball in 2004 with the New York Mets, is an enormously talented player and has played for several Major League teams since his arrival in the league.
After playing for the Mets for two seasons, he later went onto play for the Kansas City Royals, Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros, San Francisco Giants and Tampa Bay Rays.
Before signing with the White Sox, Keppinger garnered attention from many Major League teams but accepted the South Chicago baseball franchise’s offer.
