Chicago White Sox slip to Baltimore Orioles 3-4 – MLB Recap
The Chicago White Sox lost to the Baltimore Orioles 3-4 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Monday, August 27 at Oriole Park in Baltimore.
"It's a tough one, but we'll be back tomorrow, They're playing hard. That's the only thing you can really ask for is effort, the way they go at it. I have no complaints with that," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said on his team’s defeat.
Nate McLouth and Lew Ford played well for the Orioles and earned a great victory for their team.
McLouth scored one run and added three RBIs on his three at-bats while his team-mate and designated hitter Ford also proved his valour with his one run on a consistent .371 slugging percentage.
"I faced him a number of times in the NL Central when he was with Houston, with mixed results, [But] I got a good fastball that I could handle," McLouth said on his performance.
Catcher Matt Wieters also did well on the plate as he scored one run and smashed one hit while maintaining his slugging percentage at .413.
First baseman Mark Reynolds also added one run in the Orioles’ overall score tally. He played aggressive and maintained his slugging percentage at .400.
Not only batters, but the Orioles' pitchers also played tremendously and earned a great victory for their team.
"This is as good of a club as I've ever had about staying in the moment and are around so many things that aren't really realistic, to stay together challenge the things that really are important,” said manager Buck Showalter on his team’s performance.
Starter Wei-Yin Chen played exceptionally well as he pitched six innings and allowed two runs and four hits. He retired eight and received only one homer on his 3.78 ERA.
Darren O'Day also did well on the mound and did not allowed any run or hit on his 2.44 ERA. He struck-out two and remained confident on the mound.
Pedro Strop pitched one inning as well but received one run and three hits. He struck-out one while his ERA remained consistent at 1.56.
