Chicago White Sox slip to Tampa Bay Rays 2-3 – MLB Recap
Chicago White Sox lost to the Tampa Bay Rays 2-3 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Thursday, September 27 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.
"The belief has never gone away. We've felt like we had a good chance to be a playoff team from the beginning of the year, The pressure is not on us playing from behind. It's not ours to lose, it's ours to win. We're behind, but we're close enough," Evan Longoria said on his team’s performance.
White Sox pitchers and hitters played poorly from the start of the game and eventually lost.
Only a few hitters were able to add runs while the rest of White Sox’s players remained under pressure and could not do much for their team.
Centre fielder Alejandro De Aza scored one run and smashed one hit on his four at-bats. Though his slugging percentage remained consistent at .410 but his performance alone could not provide any winning combination to the White Sox as they lost with a one-run margin.
Along with batters, the White Sox pitchers also played poorly and could not match the Rays’ brilliance.
Jake Peavy pitched 7.1 innings and received two runs and four hits along with one homer. He pitched way-ward and did not show any fighting spirit during his spell.
"There ain't nobody to blame. I think everybody in here will take accountability for the way we've played, We had it right there in front of us a lot tonight and throughout the last week and a half, just hadn't been able to capitalize on either side of the ball,” Chicago starter Jake Peavy said later in the game.
Later Brett Myers pitched 1.2 innings and received one run and one hit along with one homer on is 3.48 ERA.
On the other hand, Rays’ pitchers and batters played beautifully for a great victory for their team.
James Shields pitched 6.1 innings and received only two runs. He struck six and pitched with great accuracy. Maintaining his ERA at 3.62, Shields in the end, proved to be one of the winning factors for the Tampa Bay Rays.
