Chicago White Sox starting pitcher John Danks likely to pitch on Opening Day – MLB News
The Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura is shaping up his starting roster for the upcoming Opening Day (April 6) with full flair.
Ventura is managing his first season with the White Sox as manager is putting some enormous amount of time and effort deciding over his Opening Day roster including starters and potential batting line-up.
Lately, busy in the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training, Ventura spoke to the media and told them that his Opening Day pitcher will likely be John Danks, whose past record also shows his true commitment with the team.
"Right now, he is going to be that guy," Ventura said after a 6-2 exhibition loss to the Angels. "I like him as that guy right now. I'm not making it official.”
Ventura added, the White Sox are going to play against the Texas Rangers on their Opening Day clash and Danks will be a lethal weapon in first six innings.
White Sox head pitching Coach Don Cooper also thinks that Danks is a good choice for Opening Day.
Cooper said, “He got my attention semi-negatively with what he was doing, He had the right idea but was going about it the wrong way. After a couple of practices, he instantly looked better."
Contrary to Danks’ potential Opening Day selection, Danks never pitched as Opening Day starter in his five years career with the White Sox.
Lately, Danks also commented in the media on his potential chances to start an Opening Day game.
Danks said, "I don't know anyone who doesn't want to throw (on) opening day, it’s a huge honour. I keep my fingers crossed, but two more like this, and I don’t think there will be any question.”
White Sox and their entire roster are working hard these days in Arizona playing in the Spring Training. Despite having Danks’ services, the White Sox have also some good pitchers as backup for next season.
Jake Peavy along with Gavin Floyd, Chris Sale, Philip Humber, Jhan Marinez and Simon Castro are also there to help the Chicago White Sox in any unlikely situation.
