Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Philip Humber throws perfect game against Seattle Mariners
With a perfect game, the Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Philip Humber has showed the world why this South Chicago based baseball franchise never worried over Mark Buehrle’s decision of joining Miami Marlins this Major League Baseball season.
He was exceptional on Saturday at Safeco Field against the Seattle Mariners when he pitched tremendously to become a 21st man in history of baseball in US to throw a perfect game.
Humber said, "I saw that on TV when I was in the clubhouse and like I said earlier, I don't know what my name is doing on that list, It's just so humbling. I'm so thankful. It's an awesome feeling."
He added, “People are telling me, 'You have to send this or this' to the Hall of Fame. I've been to the Hall of Fame and I've seen the stuff that's there. And now to think something of mine is going to be there is pretty awesome. My identity was as a baseball player. How I evaluated myself was my stat line.”
This was a proud moment for 29-year old and also for the White Sox management, who after Mark Buehrle believed in his game and gave much confidence since start of the season.
Humber achieved this accomplishment adding his career win loss record to 12-10 while his career has also been illuminated with perfect game calibre pitcher.
The other career stats’ tally also went high with 3.90 ERA, along with 167 strikeouts and 1.24 WHIP. On the other hand his so far ERA is consistent at 0.63 along with 1-0 win loss record, 16 strikeouts and 0.63 WHIP.
In the meanwhile, this achievement of Humber has put him in the limelight for rest of the season and he needs to step up another stride forward eying on the World Series title for his team.
The White Sox next encounters are tough including the Oakland Athletics, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, Los Angeles Angels, Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins, Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays, Houston Astros, St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers, New York Yankees and Texas Rangers.
