Chicago White Sox still to add couple of free agents – MLB Update
Chicago White Sox management has not stopped looking to add more fire power in the roster as they want more free agents who will potentially fulfil franchise’s offensive needs. The White Sox have recently come to an agreement with the right handed Jeff Keppinger
for a three-year deal.
“We're actively talking to other clubs and a couple of free agents, Signing Jeff takes a little bit of pressure off of infield hole now, but it doesn't mean we won't take look at (other areas) on roster,” White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said Monday on
a conference call.
“If the season started today, I expect he would be the opening-day third baseman, but there's a significant amount of offseason to go," Hahn said.
Later Keppinger said, “It wasn't a fun time for me, I had flip-flops on I was going downstairs and slipped. I just didn't land right. It was pretty nerve-wracking when I got the X-rays and they told me it was a fracture."
Rick has recently attended 2012 Major League Baseball’s annual Winter Meetings in Nashville where he also told some reporters that the White Sox are in deep talks with their free agents this offseason.
The White Sox earlier somewhat speculated in the media that they will probably sign their all potential free agents. However recently news has come out in the media that free agent Kevin Youkilis signed with the New York Yankees.
This news also made Rick Hahn slight upset as his top management wanted to re-sign Youkilis but with some contract complication, both sides did not agree. On the other hand, now the White Sox front office is eying on free agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski.
Hahn has already indicated that Pierzynski is expected to sign with them but they are still looking for a more open deal in the coming weeks. The White Sox skipper Robin Ventura is also focusing to retain some of the players who last played for them with
good averages.
Ventura especially wants Pierzynski back as he certainly performed well for the White Sox achieving .278 hitting average, 27 home runs, 77 RBIs and .326 OBP.
