Chicago White Sox thrash St. Louis Cardinals 6-1 – MLB Recap
The Chicago White Sox thrashed the St. Louis Cardinals 6-1 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday at Busch Stadium in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
White Sox played as one unit and never allowed the Cardinals to take control of the game at any stage of the game.
Paul Konerko and Adam Dunn played wonderfully for the White Sox and earned a great win for the White Sox.
"We've had already about six or seven of those moments where we're doing well and then we had a hiccup. You just know you have to bounce back if you want to stay in it. That was tonight." Konerko said.
Starter Jose Quintana also played exceptionally and only allowed one run in his 5.1 innings. He struck-out four and maintained his 1.98 ERA.
"That's actually what I was looking for, The double plays were going to get me out of the inning and I was able to get them." Quintana said.
Later Robin Ventura said for his starter’s contribution in White Sox win, "He's getting it again, He's proven he can pitch up here. When he goes out there and does what he's doing right now, he's making a strong case for staying around."
On the other hand, the Cardinals’ pitchers played real poor and could not earn a win for their team. They were waivered and not accurate in all nine innings of the game.
Adam Wainwright started the game for the Cardinals and received five hits, two runs and two earned runs. He not only failed to maintain his ERA of 4.75 but he also looked tired during the entire game.
Relief pitcher Marc Rzepczynski also proved ineffective as he gave two runs, three hits and two earned runs.
In the end closer Mitchell Boggs again could not do much with the ball as he received two runs, two hits and two earned runs with sluggish 2.63 ERA.
The White Sox with this win now standing at top position in the American League Central Division with 34-28 win-loss record along with .548 winning percentage.
