Chicago White Sox tied with Houston Astros 5-5 – MLB Spring Training
Chicago White Sox tied with Houston Astros 5-5 at the Minute Maid Park in Houston, Florida on Wednesday, April 4 in their Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
For the White Sox, starter Philip Humber put up a strong show as he pitched four scoreless innings to let Chicago take 2-0 lead in the fourth inning. However, Houston fought back brilliantly, thanks Jose Altuve’s and Martinez’s effort that put them 3-2 ahead
in the fifth inning.
Humber played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he allowed just three runs and five hits in an impressive outing. Striking out five batters, he is certainly making a name for himself. The 21 year old right hander is still pretty new to
the Major League Baseball World. It will be interesting to see if he can perform on regular basis at the highest possible level.
J.A. Happ also had a decent time on the mound, giving up just two runs and four hits. He also walked out two in five innings in Astros’ final Spring Training game. According to the MLB schedule, both teams will have a day off on Thursday before starting
their regular season campaign. Astros will be facing Colorado Rockies in their opener while the White Sox will take on the Texas Rangers in Arlington.
"Especially early on, I felt like I had my good stuff going and everything was working," he said. "Toward the end, I felt like I was getting a little jumpy and I started rushing my delivery."
"We have a few new guys and I've been working on building those relationships with them," he said of Happ. "That was a big thing for me this spring was getting to know them and getting to know their strengths. I think we've learned each other quickly this
spring and it'll only get better as the season gets going."
Astros’ batter J.D. Martinez will be very happy with his performance as he hit a two run home run and Brian Bogusevic also made a useful contribution with the bat but the Astros were unable to cross the winning line on Wednesday.
