Chicago White Sox top Cleveland Indians 8-7 after 14 intense innings – MLB Update
The Chicago White Sox held their nerves to defeat the Cleveland Indians 8-7 after an epic 14 inning encounter at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Tuesday, August 16.
Each team outperformed the other as the game entered the tenth inning after scores were locked at 7-7 at the end of regular play. The game became intense when the scores remained unchanged till the top of the 14th inning. Gordon Beckham’s second
run of the game finally sealed it for the White Sox in the bottom of the 14th inning.
Ubaldo Jimenez was decent at the mound for the Indians in his third start for the team after his transfer from the Colorado Rockies at the midseason trade deadline. He leaked five runs in 4.2 innings before being replaced by Frank Herrmann at the mound.
Gavin Floyd was decent as well in his 5.2 innings as he gave away five runs amid five hits in his spell. This performance would have been poor in any other game but given the high-scoring nature of this encounter, this performance was satisfactory.
With the scoring tied, it all came down to Chad Durbin from the Indians and Jason Frasor from the White Sox to fight it out as the game entered the 14th inning.
Pitching first, Frasor managed to pitch a perfect inning and give Chicago the advantage. Durbin, on the contrary, succumbed to the intense pressure and gave away a precious run to the White Sox which gave them an unavoidable lead. Durbin lost his second
game for the season while Frasor’s effort won him his third game of the season.
Alejandro De Aza and Beckham starred for Chicago with the bat. Both players added two runs each to hand the White Sox their 61st win this season and take them past the .500 winning percentage yet again. They have now won four of their previous
five encounters and are on a three-game winning streak.
The Indians, on the other hand, have managed to split their last four games with two wins and as many losses.
The White Sox lead the three-game series 1-0 with the second game scheduled for Wednesday, August 17.
