Chicago White Sox’s Jake Peavy off to good start against San Francisco Giants in Cactus League game
If there’s one man who impressed the Chicago White Sox in their game against the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, it was Jake Peavy. The hard line pitcher, who is trying to find his way back from injury, did well recently when he went up against the Giants
in a Cactus League game. The ball thrower has been handled with care by the club and there is not much to report on his recovery. The player feels great and it seems he might start for the team from the first week of the season.
The pitcher was quite satisfied with his performance in the Cactus League game on Wednesday in Scottsdale, Arizona. Playing 3 2/3 innings against the Giants, Peavy allowed a run of a single hit that came out of a roster that won the World Series last year.
Peavy is recovering from surgery on a torn tendon in his right shoulder. After the game, he talked to the press in the clubhouse at Scottsdale Stadium and got straight to the point. He compared his display to his starting debut on Friday last week.
“Today wasn’t as free and easy as the other day,” said Peavy. “It was certainly a lot of work to get ready, but my body did all we asked it to do. I wasn't very sharp. I had pretty decent stuff. It was just a good step in the right direction, another hurdle
to clear and moving on toward our ultimate goal and that's to break camp with the team.”
White Sox Catcher AJ Pierzynski was happy with the player’s display on the mound. He was glad to see the pitcher do well. He and manager Ozzie Guillen were both surprised to see the ball thrower handle the match well against a top class team like the Giants.
The catcher knows the significance of Peavy in the rotation. “We need him and we need him to be healthy,” Pierzynski said about Peavy. “But we need him healthy for the whole season – not just for Spring Training.”
