Chicago White Sox’s Jake Peavy to pitch against Oakland Athletics despite the flu – MLB Update
In a recent press address, Ozzie Guillen of the Chicago White Sox announced that he will allow Jake Peavy to pitch against the Oakland Athletics in today’s game. The announcement came as a shock to many critics and fans that have seen Peavy go through a
rough week, battling a serious flu. Though critics have pledged their concern for the pitcher, it was revealed that the decision came from the ace striker himself.
"Hopefully I'll get better over the day," he said before Friday's game. "I'm still having trouble with my stomach, keeping food down. You all know what I'm going through. When your stomach is uneasy and you can't put food in, of course you're going to be
weak. But I have stayed hydrated. They gave me some IVs and bags of fluid the past couple of days, so that goes a long way in helping you feel good."
Peavy did go up against the San Diego Padres on Monday and now he wants to take on the Oakland Athletics, who lost to Chicago, 18-1. The player is building strength and it will take time for him to return.
"We certainly like to throw between starts," he said. "But honestly, it was all I could do to get out of bed yesterday just to get in to see a doctor to where they could put fluids in me."
Peavy went on to tell the reporters that if one cannot get out of bed, then that individual cannot play, catch or practice. However in his case, he wants to go out and see what he can do with his form and condition. He assured the press that he will just
go out to play and that he will observe how his body will feel throughout the work-out.
The motive of the whole work-out scheme was to identify whether Peavy could go out and perform to the best of his abilities. In the end, he reaffirmed that he will go out and try to watch his status carefully, as not to aggravate his condition any further.
