Chicago White Sox’s Mark Buehrle not concerned about the years beyond 2012 – MLB Update
With title aspirations in the air, Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen and general manager Ken Williams have committed $123 million to the squad and intend to cut down on their manpower next year. The only problem with the situation is the lack of durability
that figure brings to the future stability of the organisation, which is exactly why Mark Buehrle may not feature for the giant club.
Buehrle has a reputation of being a first class ace for the White Sox. The pitcher will be starting for the club tomorrow against the Cleveland Indians. Nothing less than a win is expected of the maestro, but going into a franchise record ninth season start,
there is no telling what the future holds for him. It is highly unlikely that he will be offered a contract extension, similar to the one offered in 2007.
While that agreement put the ball thrower on the squad on a four-year deal worth $56 million, the situation will be different. The player is older, but he has more experience and presents a better option to the club to lead this season. However, he is not
concerned about the situation.
"I have no idea. I don't know which route the team's going," said Buehrle. "I don't know if they have some young guys they want to bring up instead of bringing me back, I have no clue. I'm not too concerned about it. I'm going to go out there every five
days, and if talks do happen, I'm sure my agent will let me know or the White Sox will let me know, and we'll go from there."
Paul Konerko, the captain of the White Sox, was also in a similar situation. While Buehrle convinced him to sign a three-year $37.5 million contract, he now is in the same predicament. While the pitcher was joking about the situation before, the tables have
turned for him as Konerko is adding pressure on him now.
"No. I told you, I have something on him so he can't get on me too much," said Buehrle with a mischievous smile. "And if he ever does, I'll let it leak, and we'll have a nice story."
If the ace does get a White Sox contract, one can assess that it will be similar to the Konerko deal that came through.
