Chicago White Sox’s Ozzie Guillen earns praise as players make progress in recovery – MLB Update
Ozzie Guillen was in the news recently and that was for the right reason. The manager of the Chicago White Sox got the praise from Director of player development, Buddy Bell. The positive feedback came in light of the improvements in Jim Gallagher, Drew
Garcia and Jose Martinez, as the three minor league players were present with the major team in Spring Training during the Cactus League fixtures.
The players took advantage of their calling in Glendale, Arizona. However Bell believes the White Sox skipper had more to contribute on the fore-front.
"Ozzie never says anything bad about our kids," Bell said. "He's so easy to work with in terms of sending guys over and getting them playing time. We care about how they act and how they play and perform. But for the most part, you are going to have managers
that are going to say, 'We don't want that guy anymore. Don't send that guy.' Well he's a Minor Leaguer, and Ozzie gets it. It's so much easier for our kids to be able to perform and see what they can do. He treats them great."
Whatever the case may be, Guillen has his own worries to ponder over which have called him to focus more on the squad. Jake Peavy is looking good in his recovery, as he played against a controlled intra-squad. He was able to retire 13 hitters before he started
feeling the same pain he encountered against the Oakland Athletics on 19
March.
Guillen has conveyed his decision to not let Peavy easily off the hook. He needs to be certain that the pitcher is up to the challenge before he gives him another chance at the mound in the Major League Baseball format.
Chris Sale is another man on the return. He has been playing catch in the work-out and it is believed he will not be ready to make the Opening Day of the 2011 Major League Baseball season, as a fit player in the squad. The White Sox want their stars to be
fit and pressure is mounting on Ozzie Guillen.
