Chicago ready to take a risk on Tracy McGrady?
Once regarded as one of the best scorers in the league Tracy McGrady might have to resort to a bench role if he wants to sign with a contender for next year.
But that’s what the Chicago Bulls have offered the 31-year-old veteran and if T-Mac wants the chance to win a championship, a bench role with the Chicago Bulls could be his best chance of winning that first elusive ring. In fact joining the Bulls should be his best chance of advancing past the first round of the play-offs, something McGrady has never achieved.
According to reports on ESPN a source told Marc Stein "nothing is done until it's done, but I expect the Bulls to sign McGrady later this week," and if that’s the case the signs point to McGrady accepting a bench role.
McGrady earned $23million last season with the Houston Rockets and the New York Knicks so would he be willing to play for a significant less amount? Well firstly he’s going to have to because no one is going to give him close to that and secondly as a bench player he’s not going to be in a position to command a high salary.
It isn’t inconceivable that McGrady gets a three-year deal in the region $15-20million and with the support of point guard Derrick Rose, the seven-time All-Star could soon be playing in a Bulls jersey.
"He's good. He's a player. If he just gives us half of what he's got, we'll be all right.
"But I know a player like him, he's going to go out there and give us his all, but he'll definitely help us if we get him on the team,” Rose said.
