does anyone know about how long a flight from Chicago to Frankfurt, Germany will take? Also, what is the flight path? Do they fly over the north pole or straight across the ocean? Lastly, does anyone have any tips for dealing with jet lag?

  1. 1.  If you're flying nonstop, then the flight is a little over 8 hours from Chicago to Frankfurt - about 9 hours returning from Frankfurt to Chicago. (It always takes longer from Europe to North America because of the headwinds).

    2.  The flight path is not over the North Pole - but it's not exactly a straight shot either.  It goes pretty far north, over Canada (probably over Newfoundland) and then over Iceland and back over Europe (probably over the British isles).

    3.  As far as jet lag - Fortunately most flights leave North America in the early evening and arrive in Europe the next morning.  I would say to try to sleep as much as possible during the flight over.  Don't drink any caffeine - as a matter of fact don't drink too much at all (except a couple glasses of water) during the flight.  Unless a scotch will help you sleep throughout the flight ;) Also try to adjust to the local time as quickly as possible - set your watch to Frankfurt time (7 hours ahead) as soon as you leave Chicago.  Then, when you arrive, try and stay awake until after dinner.  Get a good night's sleep the first night you're there and hopefully the rest of your trip will be easier.
