  1. The "don" part is short for "donburi".  ÃƒÂ¤Ã‚¸Â¼Ã£ÂƒÂ¼Ã¯Â¼ÂžÃ£ÂÂ©Ã£Â‚“ぶりー>どん

Donburi are rice bowls.  Big bowls of rice that can have a variety of toppings put on top of it.

Oyakodon (親子丼)is chicken and eggs cooked together served over rice.  Katsudon (カツ丼)has tonkatsu (トンカツ)or a breaded fried pork cutlet served on top of rice.

Udon is a type of noodle commonly used in noodle soups, but it has a different kanji (chinese character) than the one that is used in donburi.  Donburi's "don" is 丼, whereas udon's "don" is 飩.  Udon itself is not a donburi.

  2. The don is short for donburi.

A bowl dish filled with rice & topped with meat (chicken, pork, or even beef & with egg scrambled in it as its topping)

Chicken Don = Chicken cooked teriyaki stlye then added seasonings, veggies, & eggs scrambled in it topped over rice served in a bowl. Lots of variety sometimes no egg is added just chicken over rice.

Katsu Don = Pork Katsu (Katsu is the meat-pork coated with a rice flour & egg then deep fried) then with sliced onions, seasonings, scrambled eggs added to it, to top over the rice & served in a bowl.

Vegetable Udon = Udon is a noodle soup dish served hot in a bowl. Thick wheat based noodle soup. Vegetable is added to the noodle soup dish.

Just had the Katsu Don for lunch. my breakfast was a bento.
