Chicken Leg Parasite Problem?

hi i raise about 20 banty hens this year i let them hatch there own egg they hatched the eggs in a a carbboard box with straw on the bottom of it

in 2 or 3 hens after they hatched he eggs and were raising the chicks i noticed that they kept picking at thhere leg i then noticed on the legs of he 3 chickens was small red looking scabs

i have only seen these scabs on chickens that have sat and hatched out eggs

could this be a lice problem?

  1. Yes it could be.  You feed store should have some medicine for them.  Dust the chickens and all of thier areas with it.  Don't use it on the chicks if they are not very old.

I just went through scaly feet with my canaries; something that is quite common in chickens and canries.  I covered leg with Campho-Phenique and then covered that with vasaline.  I was given this remedy by the older lady at the feed store she and her husband got after they retired.  Now if you ask others, they will tell you the right way to do it is to get this VERY expensive medicine, but she told me of this treatment (said she used it on her chickens for years) and it worked.  My one was really bad so it took about 3 weeks, once every day.   Good luck.
