Hi.

If an egg has an air bubble, does that mean that it is fertile?

or do all eggs(fertile or not) have air bubbles that you can see when the egg is candled? Thanks!

  1. All eggs should have a pocket of air towards the larger end of the egg.  This is what allows for easier diffusion of air between the embryo and the shell, and also provides enough air for the chick when it first breaks through the inner membrane before it pips through the shell.

This doesn't have anything to do with fertilization.  In order to tell if an egg is fertile you need to candle it (for a chicken) between 7-9 days and check to see if there are any blood vessels forming and a visible embryo.

If the egg is clear by the 8th day, it is not fertile.
