Question:

Chicken-fence coating bad for my reptiles??? please read...?

well, we just build a tank for our beardie and uro and we put chicken-fence on top.. that chicken-fence is alumium and has a coating around (form lowes) and now our lightbulbs sit right on that fence.... its not melding or anything but it has that weird burned smell.... is that smell poison or anything, could it harm my babys????

  1. what you are probably smelling is the wire heating up under the lamps, the  chicken wire is coated and it is the coating burning off, not only can this give off chemicals but the wire is going to get really hot and that is not good for you or your bearded, you also stand a chance of the coating dripping on your bearded dragon, i would not take the chance of the wire being toxic as if you can smell it it must be giving off some sort of chemical, try moving the lamps inside the wire it might help you, best of luck honey


  2. If you are smelling something, that can be very toxic.  I would use something else.

  3. bad bad bad change at once.  some metal is treated with Teflon which is bad when heated and can even hurt humans.
