Question:

Chicken in freezer - how many days, safe to eat?

Hello,

I know keeping cooked chicken in the refrigerator gives you 3-4 days to eat it. Some of the chicken I've had, was put in the freezer, which is small but formed ice inside the chicken. The chicken smells fine but it's been 6 days. Assuming the freezer only works halfway good, but still below 32 F, is the chicken safe to eat?

People with ACTUAL experience who DIDN'T get sick are welcome.

  1. HAHA. ive eating ckn thats been in the freezer for a year. i was fine heat up above 160 degrees to be safe though.

  2. if cooked chicken then once defrosted eat the same day. with raw chicken cook and eat within 48 hours of defrosting.

  3. Food lasts for months in the freezer. My main worry is not getting sick from spoilage (and do reheat to 160 degrees as the man suggested), but from the dreaded freezer burn, which makes it taste a little off. If the tips of the chicken pieces turn white, that's freezer burn, and should be trimmed off. It's not dangerous, just tastes funny.

It's best to closely wrap food that's going in the freezer, so there's no air in the package to cause freezer burn.
